High quality, high impact services for all

Bringing life-changing community support to Leigh

Higher Folds Community Centre was originally managed by Wigan Council, then looked after by a group of local residents in 1997. This local knowledge and passion turned Higher Folds into what we see today – a place for local people to meet, grow, and change their lives.

The best start to your child’s life

With education and a supportive social group, parents are empowered to make the best choices for their children.

Our parent groups, Tiny Tots and Baby Bump and Beyond, are held a few times a week. They include sensory play, story time, dance, and outdoor games, as well as healthy cooking classes and simple exercise.

Becoming school-ready

Our early years nursery builds the foundations of your children’s education. Safe and secure with fully equipped indoor and outdoor learning areas, Higher Folds is run by fully-trained, experienced staff.

Babies, toddlers and preschool aged children have the freedom to learn and play with other children, develop their communication skills, and get ready for their first year at school.

Our Goals

    • – To improve local people’s health and fitness.
    • – To improve life skills and employment opportunities.
    • – To reduce loneliness and isolation.
    • – To provide excellent early years education.

All our goals have a knock-on effect. We believe that getting early years education right can improve employment opportunities throughout the community, and reducing isolation can improve people’s health and fitness for life.

Live Well

Our walking, cycling, and sports activities help local residents form friendships. We also recycle food through our FareShare scheme.
