High quality, high impact services for all

The best start to your child’s life

With education and a supportive social group, parents are empowered to make the best choices for their children.

Our parent and child group, Tiny Tots is held three times a week. They include sensory play, story time, dance, and outdoor games, as well as healthy cooking classes and simple exercise.

Becoming school-ready at our nursery

Our early years nursery builds the foundations of your children’s education. Safe and secure with fully equipped indoor and outdoor learning areas, Higher Folds Nursery is run by fully-trained, experienced staff.

Toddlers and preschool aged children have the freedom to learn and play with other children, develop their communication skills, and get ready for their first year at school.

Aims & Objectives

    • – To improve local people’s health and fitness.
    • – To improve parenting skills.
    • – To reduce loneliness and isolation.
    • – To provide excellent early years education.

All our goals have a knock-on effect. We believe that getting early years education right can improve employment opportunities throughout the community, and reducing isolation can improve people’s health and fitness for life.

Our History

The Centre was originally managed by Wigan Council. It was leased to a group of local residents in 1997 who formed themselves into a Registered Charity and Limited Company.
Charity number 1076911 and Company number 03560600.

The Charity was established to provide benefit for the residents of Higher Folds in Leigh, without distinction of, sex, or of political, religious or other opinions, by associating the local authorities, voluntary organisations and the local inhabitants in the following manner to advance education for the public benefit to relieve sickness and preserve and protect good health of persons resident in the area of benefit: the advancement of education and training of young people and adults.

Our staff and volunteers all strive to ensure that our ethos of a welcoming centre for one and all is as strong today as it was when we started.

Board of Trustees 2019

The Higher Folds Community Centre Board is democratically elected and drawn from the local community. We collaborate with fundraisers, volunteers, local residents, and members of Wigan Council.
