As a community centre in the heart of the Higher Folds Estate, it is our role to provide as much support as possible to the residents on the estate. As well as our very popular Nursery and Tiny Tots sessions and our ever growing Community Grocery we host numerous community groups and put on community events for all ages. Our most recent event was the Lobby Lunch and Games, open to all but aimed at getting more men involved in community activity

A tasty ‘lobby’ lunch was served, followed by trifle, chocolate cheesecake, cream scones and tea or coffee. The remainder of the afternoon was spent playing bingo and a selection of traditional games. It was nice to see so many people enjoying an afternoon together at the Community Centre.

Running a free lunch and games event for a community can have several significant benefits

Promotes Social Inclusion

Offering free lunch and games provides an opportunity for community members, especially those who might otherwise feel isolated, to connect, build relationships, and foster a sense of belonging

Supports Mental Health

A communal event can serve as a much-needed mental health boost, promoting fun, reducing anxiety, and improving overall well-being

Encourages Physical Activity

Games and physical activities promote exercise, which is vital for physical health. It encourages people, especially children, to engage in physical play that they might not have access to otherwise due to limited resources

Fosters Community Cohesion

Hosting such events strengthens the fabric of the community by bringing together people of all ages and backgrounds. This helps build trust and encourages mutual support, making the community more resilient

Enhances Nutrition

A free lunch ensures that people, particularly children, receive a nutritious meal that they might not have access to at home. This can contribute to better physical health and focus, especially for children in their development

Creates a Positive Environment for Growth

For younger participants, access to structured play and the chance to interact in a positive setting can support their development, boost their confidence, and inspire them to be more engaged in their community.

These types of community initiatives can create lasting, positive impacts on individuals and the area as a whole.
